This Privacy Policy explains what information Kip ("the Application") collects, why, and what choices You have. In short: Your photos never leave Your device. Kip only collects anonymous usage statistics, which You can turn off at any time in the app.
Who is responsible
Kip is developed and published by Nathan Victorin ("We", "Us", "Our"), the data controller for the information described below. Contact: [email protected].
1. Your photos and videos (processed on Your device only)
Kip asks for access to Your photo library to show, sort and delete Your photos and videos.
- On-device only. Everything happens on Your device: browsing, sorting, the size and similarity analysis used for "Large files" and "Duplicates", favorites, and deletion. Your photos, videos and their metadata (dates, locations, albums) are never uploaded to Us or to any third party. We have no access to them.
- What Kip stores on Your device: Your sorting progress, the list of items You marked for deletion, Your streak and statistics, Your settings, and a local index of file sizes and image fingerprints used to find duplicates. This data stays on Your device and is deleted when You uninstall the app.
- Deletion. Photos are only deleted after You confirm in the system dialog. Depending on Your device, they go to the "Recently Deleted" album first.
- You can change or revoke photo access at any time in Your device settings, including granting access to selected photos only.
2. Anonymous usage statistics (PostHog)
To understand how Kip is used and improve it, We use PostHog, an analytics service.
- What is collected: the screens You open and key actions (for example: onboarding completed, a sort started or finished with its number of kept and deleted items, photos deleted with their count and total size, streak milestones, subscription screen views and purchases), the app language, whether You have Kip+, the app version, device model and operating system version, and a random identifier generated by the app.
- What is never collected: Your photos, file names, album names, locations, contacts, name or email address. No event is sent for each individual swipe.
- Purpose: measuring and improving the app (which features are used, where people get stuck, whether subscriptions work). It is not used for advertising, and We do not track You across other companies' apps or websites.
- Your choice: turn off "Share anonymous statistics" in Kip's Settings at any time. Kip then stops sending usage statistics.
- Legal basis (EU/UK): Our legitimate interest in improving the Application, balanced by the anonymous nature of the data and the in-app opt-out.
3. Subscriptions and purchases (Apple, Google, RevenueCat)
Kip+ subscriptions are sold and billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never receive Your payment details.
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat receives the store transaction information (product, price, dates, renewal status) linked to a random identifier generated by the app, not to Your name or email. When anonymous statistics are on, this identifier is linked to the PostHog identifier, so that subscription events (trial started, renewed, cancelled) are counted in Our statistics. Turning statistics off removes this link.
